Number of Uninsured Americans Declines But Remains High, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

The total number of people in America who were without health insurance for the full year of 2012 was 47.95 million, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.  At this level, approximately 15.4% of people in the U.S. did not have health care benefits.  For all of 2016, the percentage of uninsured had dropped to 8.8% (28.2 million people) after the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expanded coverage through Medicaid and provided subsidies for private insurance for patients whose income was not above certain levels.  It is worthwhile to note that the official survey of the uninsured, like the official census count,…
