Gym Memberships Continue to Rise, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

According to the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), 55.3 million Americans had health club memberships as of 2015, representing an annual growth rate of 3.3% since 2012.  In addition, 9.1 million non-members exercised at health clubs, bringing total health club usage to a record 64.4 million. Competition among fitness clubs of all types is fierce.  The IHRSA reported that one in six members quit their clubs looking for cheaper fitness alternatives.  24 Hour Fitness is one of the largest fitness chains, with almost 4 million members in more than 400 clubs in 13 U.S. states as of 2017. …
