China and India Expand Film and TV Production Activity, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

Global movie ticket and TV advertising sales have been rising dramatically.  The growth of the middle class in India and China particularly is fueling the construction of new cinemas.  In 2017, China’s box office reached $8.6 billion, up 30% (if calculated in U.S. dollars) from 2016’s $6.59 billion, according to China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.  In Chinese yuan, the country’s box office was up 14% over 2016.
