Apps Converge with Messaging and Voice Recognition, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

Apps are being taken to a whole new level with the advent of smarter, highly complex personal assistant tools such as Apple’s well known Siri (found on every iPhone), Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa.   These tools, sometimes referred to as “virtual assistants” are voice-activated, and the latest versions are highly sensitive and cognitive, recognizing voice commands even in noisy rooms or vehicles.  Capable of performing complex tasks such as placing online orders for everything from Uber rides to money transfers to items from Amazon, new, cutting edge apps now offer platform-crossing access to multiple tool and services at once.

For example, Apple’s iOS 10 operating system, slated for a fall 2016 release, enables developers to team Siri with their apps, thanks to Apple’s mid-2016 announcement that non-Apple software developers can have access to Siri.  One of the first live examples is Lyft, the car ride service.  In the new operating system, the Lyft ride app can be activated by simply saying “Siri, order me a Lyft.”
