Jobs: Mid-Size U.S. Employers Business Trends Analysis, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

Job seekers in 2016 will continue to face a challenging job market, although increased hiring and wages may be seen if the economy continues the improvements seen in late 2015, and confidence in both consumer and business areas increase.  Many types of employers have restructured and downsized thanks to the deep financial crisis of 2007-09.  By 2011, most employers had pushed productivity about as far as they could, to the point that significant future growth in business would require a larger number of new employees.  Some of the business sectors that were hardest hit had stabilized in 2013-15.  For example, automobile sales are significantly higher than they were during the recent recession, banks are more stable and the home building business was enjoying good sales throughout 2015.

However, as 2016 began, the global economy was dealing with a very difficult financial and business environment in Europe, a slowdown in global trade and slowing economies in important emerging nations such as Russia, Brazil and China.  These problems will have an effect on employment in the U.S. over the next several months.
