Artificial Intelligence (AI) Rocks the Games, Apps & Social Media Industry, Business and Industry Trends Analysis

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way the games, apps and social media industry works.  It is impacting how content is created, experienced, moderated and personalized.
Developers are using AI to create content, including characters, story lines, environments (e.g. virtual worlds) and levels of play.  The fact that extremely fast, powerful AI servers are utilized makes the possibilities nearly endless.  For example, Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky is comprised of roughly 18 quintillion AI generated planets, each with its own ecosystem, topography and lifeforms.
Games are improving in response and adaptation to player behavior due to AI designed and driven non-playable characters (NPCs) which are not controlled by players.  NPCs are instead controlled by an organizer or facilitator, or by artificial intelligence.  These characters fill a variety of purposes, including acting as allies or enemies, or providing information or facilitating quests.  Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games has NPCs that create a lifelike world through AI-driven adaptation to player responses.  TaleWorlds Entertainment’s Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord relies on AI decision making for tactical planning in battles as well as diplomacy.  Game testing, bug identification, difficulty level optimization and balancing are also being performed by AI bots which simulate millions of playthroughs.
Smart assistants and chatbots (e.g. Agentic AI) are improving app productivity and user engagement.  For example, Intercom’s AI chatbot called Fin handles customer support inquiries with fast, accurate and comprehensive answers via live chat, email and more.  Grammarly analyzes writing for grammar, tone and clarity and suggests improvements.
As for social media, AI vastly speeds and expands content recommendation, moderation and creation.  YouTube users see massive numbers of recommended videos based on watch history, contextual metadata and user engagement.
