Wireless Data Services

The Cingular Wireless, a joint venture between SBC Communications (with 60% ownership) and BellSouth (with 40%), is the largest wireless company in the United States, serving over 50 million subscribers with the country's largest digital voice and data network. The firm earned revenue of more than $32 billion in 2004. It serves 95 of the Fortune 100 companies, more than 80% of the Fortune 500 and over 1,200 federal, state and local government agencies. Following its acquisition of AT&T Wireless in October 2004 for $41 billion, Cingular has a 29% market share in the U.S. The company's GSM network provides service in all top 100 metropolitan areas. In addition, the firm has launched UMTS, the leading 3G technology, in six markets, with plans to launch in several more in 2005. Cingular also offers the largest international coverage of any U.S. carrier. Its Rollover plan allows customers to keep their unused monthly minutes for future use. Cingular also offers wireless data services over its Mobitex network. Recently, the firm won a contract to serve as the sole provider of high-speed wireless data services to all state agencies in Tennessee.

Cingular offers its employees a full benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage, an employee assistance plan, life insurance, child day care center discounts, adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement, employee rate plans and a matching gift program. The company has been ranked in the top 50 of Training Magazine's Training Top 100 for the past two years, offering every employee over 40 hours of training annually.
