GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES
Amadeus IT Group S.A. operates one of the largest travel reservation and ticketing systems in the world. The company was originally founded by Air France, Lufthansa, Iberia and SAS to operate a global distribution system. The company operates in two segments: distribution and IT solutions. The distribution segment provides travel distribution services in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Asia Pacific region and South and Central America. Its service distribution network includes over 103,000 travel agencies and over 36,000 airline sales offices worldwide, with access to over 440 airlines, 30 car rental companies (representing 36,000 car rental locations), 286 hotel chains, 21 cruise lines, 85,000 hotels, 203 tour operators, 103 rail operators and 23 travel insurance companies. The IT solutions segment features the Amadeus Altea Customer Management System (CMS), a customer management suite that focuses on inventory management, departure control and sales and reservations. It consists of four modules: Altea Reservation, which enables customers to manage bookings, fare prices and ticketing through a single interface; Altea Inventory, which permits airlines to create and manage schedules, seat capacity and associated fares; Altea Departure Control, which covers flight departure aspects, including check-in, boarding passes and gate control; and Altea e-commerce, a suite of solutions that seeks to improve airline e-commerce sales and support processes. Amadeus also operates Amadeus.net, a travel planning tool used to help customers find flights, hotels and car rentals, and CheckMyTrip.com, a service that allows people to check the status of their itineraries. In addition, Amadeus owns e-Travel, Inc., a leading provider of hosted corporate travel technology; SMART AB, a Northern European travel distribution company; and Vacation.com, a leisure travel web site. In mid 2010, the company launched Cars Plus, a booking engine for car rentals.
