GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES
Verizon Communications, Inc. is one of the world’s largest providers of communications services. It operates in two segments: wireline and domestic wireless. The wireline segment, operating in over 150 countries, comprises four units: Mass Markets; Global Enterprise; Global Wholesale; and Other. The Mass Markets unit provides local exchange, long distance, broadband services and FiOS TV services to residential and small business subscribers. Global Enterprise offers voice, data and Internet communications services to medium and large business customers, multi-national corporations and state and federal government customers. Global Wholesale provides switched access and special access services to long distance and other carriers. Lastly, the Other segment provides local exchange and long distance services from former MCI mass market customers, operator services, pay phone, card services and supply sales. The domestic wireless segment’s products and services include wireless voice, data products and other value added services and equipment sales across the U.S. The division includes Verizon Wireless, in which Verizon holds a 55% controlling interest, with Vodafone holding the rest. The segment’s network covers a population of 292 million and provides services to a customer base of nearly 94.1 million. Verizon Wireless’4G LTE network is deployed in 38 major metropolitan areas in the U.S. The primary network technology platform is CDMA, based on spread-spectrum digital radio technology. The wireline segment accounts for roughly 40% of revenues, while the domestic wireless segment accounts for 60%. In November 2010, Verizon Wireless, AT&T Mobility LLC and T-Mobile USA agreed to form a joint venture to build national mobile commerce network ISIS. In April 2011, Verizon Communications acquired Terremark Worldwide, Inc. Verizon offers its employees life, AD&D, disability, medical, dental and vision insurance; health and dependent care spending accounts; fitness centers at certain locations; commuter spending accounts; employee, adoption and tuition assistance; and discounts on Verizon products.
