The
Gap, Inc. is a leading retailer of clothing, accessories
and personal care products for adults, kids and
babies through 3,117 stores in the U.S., Canada,
the U.K., Japan, Germany and France. Gap sells its
products under the Gap brand, which includes GapKids,
babyGap, GapBody and Gap Outlet, as well as the
Banana Republic and Old Navy brands. Gap stores
typically embrace all Gap-branded units, such as
Gap, babyGap and GapKids, under one roof but segregate
them into different areas, each with its own street/mall
entrance. All Gap clothing is purchased from vendors
in approximately 50 countries and is private-label,
designed by and made specifically for the firm.
Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy all have their
own online stores that sell items comparable to
or exceeding the selection at store locations. Gap
stores sell classically styled, high-quality casual
apparel. Old Navy operates stores in the U.S and
Canada and offers a broad selection of apparel,
shoes and accessories for adults, children and infants.
Subsidiary Banana Republic also has U.S. and Canada
locations, and sells men’s and women’s
clothing, shoes, accessories, personal care products,
intimate apparel, jewelry and home accessories to
a higher price-point market than traditional Gap
stores. The company has launched a new store concept
aimed at baby boomer women who are seeking stylish,
comfortable fitting clothes. Named Forth & Towne,
the concept opened in the fall of 2005 with four
stores in Chicago and New York State. Each store
features a comfortable fitting salon in an effort
to keep customers in the store longer. If successful,
the firm envisions opening hundreds of these stores
nationwide.
Gap
offers eligible employees relocation assistance,
BabyLine pre-natal risk assessment services, LifeWorks
resource and referral services, tuition reimbursement,
BabyGap gifts for newborn and newly adopted children,
adoption assistance, flexible spending accounts,
home loans, travel assistance, a 401(k) savings
plan and NurseLine, which allows employees to speak
to a registered nurse 24/7. The corporate offices
also feature on-site cafes and an inter-office shuttle
service.
