GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES
eBay, Inc. is an online auction venue that brings together millions of buyers and sellers every day locally, nationally and internationally through its array of web sites. eBay provides online marketplaces for the sale of goods and services, online payments services and online communication offerings. It currently has two primary businesses: marketplaces and payments. The marketplaces segment enables online commerce through a variety of platforms, including the traditional eBay.com web site (which is available in 38 countries) and the company’s other online platforms, such as its classifieds web sites, as well as Half.com, Rent.com, Shopping.com and StubHub. Through its eBay.com auction and marketplace site, the company offers fixed-price listings and auction-style listing and provides its users with a number of safeguards against fraud. The payments segment consists of PayPal, which enables individuals and businesses to securely, easily and quickly send and receive payments online in approximately 190 markets worldwide; and Bill Me Later, which enables online U.S. merchants to offer customers transactional credit. In late 2010, eBay acquired mobile application developer Critical Path Software and local shopping engine Milo. In 2011, the firm made several acquisitions, including German online shopping group brands4friends and a 93% interest in Turkish online marketplace GittiGidiyor.
