Over
the past 30 years, Polo Ralph Lauren Corporation (Polo),
a leader in the design, marketing and distribution
of premium lifestyle products, has expanded its line
of clothing, accessories, fragrances and home furnishings
into worldwide markets. Polo licenses the manufacturing
of its products to companies around the world. The
firm's various brand names have become recognizable
cultural symbols across the globe. The company markets
its products through department, specialty, golf and
Polo Ralph Lauren stores, as well as via the Internet
and mail-order catalogs. It currently operates 39
domestic Ralph Lauren locations including Polo Sport
and Polo Country stores and 121 international locations.
The company formed Ralph Lauren Media in a joint venture
with NBC in order to reach consumers through various
media outlets, including the Internet, television,
cable and print. Its first initiative was the creation
of Polo.com, a web site that brings products and information
to consumers in an online magazine format. The company’s
various clothing labels encompass markets for women
and men, ranging from the basic collection, Polo by
Ralph Lauren, to more unique areas such as Polo Sport,
Polo Golf and Ralph Lauren Black Label, specializing
in up-to-the-moment fashion for women. Club Monaco
Cosmetics designs makeup, accessories and skin treatments
for sale through Club Monaco retail stores and specialty
stores. Ralph Lauren Home deals in home furnishings
for the elegant bedroom, college dorm room, bath,
kitchen or in-home bar. Polo has also expanded into
the food industry through RL Restaurants, an upscale
dining venture with locations in New York and Chicago.
Employment opportunities
at Polo Ralph Lauren range from retail positions in
outlets and specialty stores to positions in fashion
design and marketing. Polo is also involved in philanthropic
concerns through campaigns such as Save America’s
Treasures, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer and the Polo
Sport Race to Deliver, benefiting AIDS/HIV patients.
