Catalina
Marketing Corp. provides a range of strategic targeted
marketing solutions for consumer goods companies,
pharmaceutical manufacturers and their respective
retailers. These targeted marketing services are provided
by interrelated operating groups that strive to influence
the purchasing behavior of consumers wherever and
whenever they make purchasing decisions. Catalina
reaches consumers internationally and domestically
both in-store, through incentives, loyalty programs,
sampling and advertising messages, and at home, through
direct mailings and online. Employing data mining
technology from the company’s in-store network,
the firm’s solutions are purchase-based, individually
customized communications and promotions for manufacturers
and retailers that increase sales, enabling clients
to impact purchase decisions before, during and after
the purchase. Catalina’s primary service line
is the in-store delivery of incentives at the check-out
line. The firm links its software, computers, central
databases and thermal printers with a retailer’s
point-of-sale controllers and scanners, and the system
prints customized promotion certificates based on
product codes or other scanned information. These
promotions are handed to the consumer by the cashier
at the end of the shopping transaction. The company
also provides retail loyalty marketing services, including
direct-mail marketing services, through Market Logic,
Inc. Through the Health Resource Network, Catalina
uses in-store prescription-based targeting technology
to provide direct-to-consumer and targeted information
services advertising to health care consumers at the
pharmacy level. In addition, the company provides
online coupons and research products. Recently, Catalina
announced plans to sell its card and data-entry services
business to Capture Resource, Inc. The firm also reduced
its domestic workforce by 6% as part of a plan to
streamline cost structure.
Catalina offers its employees
medical, dental, vision and prescription drug insurance;
an assistance program; education assistance; flexible
spending accounts; and savings bonds. The firm has
been named to Forbes' 200 Best Small Companies in
