This segment also produces minimally invasive spinal fixation products. The animal health segment serves the veterinarian market with products that include anesthetic and wound care products, nutritional supplements, and intravenous sets and solutions. The company operates internationally in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin and South America and the Middle East. Abbott’s holds a 50% share in TAP Pharmaceutical Products, which makes the prostate cancer drug, Lupron, and Prevacid (Ogastro), a proton pump inhibitor for the short-term treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease. In 2008, the firm received FDA approval for Humira, a medication for polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis, as well as Simcor, a combination medicine for comprehensive cholesterol management.
