| | GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES | Ameren Corporation is a public utility holding company that traces its history back to the founding of Union Electric Company (UE) in 1902, which merged with CIPSCO in 1997 to form Ameren. UE is currently a subsidiary of Ameren, operating a rate-regulated electric generation, transmission and distribution business as AmerenUE. One of the largest electric utility companies in Missouri, AmerenUE supplies electric service to approximately 1.2 million customers and natural gas to about 125,000 customers in both Missouri and Illinois. Ameren’s primary operating subsidiaries are principally engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy and the purchase, distribution, transportation and sale of natural gas to approximately 2.2 million customers. The company’s subsidiaries include Illinois Power Company (IP), which does business as AmerenIP; Central Illinois Public Service Company (CIPS), which does business as AmerenCIPS; and Central Illinois Light Company (CILCO), which does business as AmerenCILCO. AmerenIP provides electric service to about 625,000 customers. AmerenCIPS supplies electric and gas utility services to about 400,000 electric customers and 190,000 natural gas customers in central and southern Illinois. AmerenCILCO serves over 215,000 electric customers and 210,000 natural gas customers in a number of Illinois communities. Others subsidiaries include AmerenEnergy, AmerenEnergy Resources, AmerenEnergy Resources Generating Company, and Ameren Services, which supplies administrative support to Ameren and its various companies. In December 2007, AmerenUE announced the initialization of wind power. AmerenUE will purchase 100 megawatts of wind power giving renewable energy to Missouri customers by 2010. In July 2008, AmerenUE applied to construct and operate a new nuclear power plant in Callaway County, Missouri.
Ameren offers employees medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible work schedules, an employee assistance program, educational assistance program and a retirement plan after five years of service.
