| | GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES | eBay, Inc. is an online auction venue that brings together millions of buyers and sellers every day locally, nationally and internationally through its array of websites. eBay provides online marketplaces for the sale of goods and services, online payments services and online communication offerings. It currently has three primary businesses: the eBay Marketplaces, payments and communications. eBay Marketplaces provides the infrastructure to enable online commerce in various formats, including the traditional auction platform that the original eBay site is based on. Other online platforms include Rent.com, Shopping.com, Kijiji, Gumtree.com, LoQUo.com, Intoko, Marktplaats.nl and mobile.de. eBay Express is a new fixed-price, rather than auction, service aimed at buyers who want to purchase immediately. eBay Express has more of an online store feeling and may eventually compete directly against Amazon.com and other major online sellers. The payments business, PayPal, enables individuals or businesses to securely, easily and quickly send and receive payments online. The VeriSign payment gateway business allows merchants to authorize, process, and manage online payments. Subsidiary Skype enables VoIP calls between Skype users and fixed-line and mobile telephones, and also provides Skype users the ability to connect to other users directly. In September 2006, eBay agreed to make Yahoo! the sole provider of graphical advertisements on its site. In December 2006, the firm entered into a joint-venture agreement with TOM online to further the growth of e-commerce in China. In February 2007, eBay acquired StubHub, an online marketplace for reselling event tickets, for $307 million. In May 2007, the firm acquired StumbleUpon, an online content sharing community, for $75 million.
eBay offers its employees adoption assistance, a pet insurance plan, tuition reimbursement and a casual dress code. The firm also provides employee training courses, referral bonuses and on-site services such as dry cleaning and chiropractic care.
