| | GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES | | ABN AMRO Holdings NV, an Amsterdam-based banking group, operates over 4,500 branches in 56 countries, with assets totaling over $1.4 trillion. The company operates in three segments: global markets, which develops products for commercial clients; transaction banking, which provides cash management, trade services and payment cards for the retail, private client and commercial markets; and asset management, operating from over 26 locations and offering investment products in all major regions and asset classes to institutional clients such as central banks, pension funds, insurance companies and leading charities. ABN AMRO also organizes itself into five regional units: the Netherlands, Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia. Additionally, it has two global client units: private clients, providing private banking services to wealthy individuals and families, and global clients, with 550 multinational clients. The firm also has a cross-business consumer client and commercial client segment. The North America segment’s offerings include commercial banking services; real estate finance; personal finance; small-business services; national mortgage origination and distribution; investment banking advisory; derivates and risk management services; and treasury, trade, trust and securities services. In 2006, ABN AMRO acquired Bank Corluy, a Belgium-based banking firm; International Asset Management, a specialty hedge funds manager with $2.6 billion assets under management; and Banca Antonveneta, an Italian bank. In October 2007, the company sold LaSalle Bank of America for roughly $21 billion to Bank of America. ABN Amro has agreed to be acquired by a trio led by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) for approximately $99.9 billion. RBS, Fortis NV of Belgium and Banco Santander Central Hispano SA of Spain plan to split ABN’s multinational banking businesses. |
