Acrobat Installation Tip Sheet

Go to the Adobe Acrobat Reader Download page on the Web and register according to the instructions given. Once registered, choose the Reader version, platform version, and language version you need from the pop-up lists. Click on Download. You will go to a page with two download links. Click on the appropriate geographic link. If you can’t connect to the download, try the alternate site link listed at the bottom of the page under Helpful Links.

After you click on the download link, depending on your browser configuration, a dialog box may appear asking whether you’d like to open the file or save it to disk; select Save It to Disk. A dialog box will then ask you to choose a directory. You can choose any directory on your hard drive.

Windows 95
Once you have saved Acrobat on your hard drive, minimize your Web browser.

  1. Quit your Web Browser.

When you have finished, do not close the installer application by clicking its close box in the upper right corner of the background window after clicking the Thank You dialog box that appears at the end of the installation. If you wait for a second or two, the installer will automatically close the background windows after the installation is complete.

Macintosh
Once you have saved the Acrobat file to your hard drive follow these instructions:

  1. Quit your Web browser.
  2. The file you download will be expanded to the self-extracting archive “Install Acrobat Reader”. If your Web browser isn’t configured to automatically launch an application such as StuffIt Expander to expand .hqx or .bin files (which is available as a freeware product and is distributed with Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later ), you’ll need to manually launch an application to expand the downloaded file to produce Reader Installer.
  3. Double-click the file “Install Acrobat Reader ”. (Note: This will cause all current Mac applications to quit.)
  4. Follow the instructions on your screen.

You must also associate the Acrobat Reader in your Web Browser to recognize the PDF files.

  • Select the Browse button and find the folder on your hard drive called Acrobat. Open it, and open the Reader folder inside. Find the .exe file called AcroReader_ENU.exe and click on it.
