| | GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES | | Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., founded in 1940, serves global technology, energy, industrial and healthcare customers. Products and services include atmospheric gases; process and specialty gases; performance materials; and equipment and services. The company is one of the world’s largest suppliers of hydrogen and helium and has built leading positions in growth markets such as semiconductor materials, refinery hydrogen, natural gas liquefaction, and advanced coatings and adhesives. The firm conducts business under six segments: merchant gasses; tonnage gases; electronics and performance materials; equipment and energy; healthcare; and chemicals. The merchant gasses segment sells industrial gases such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen and helium, as well as certain medical and specialty gases. Tonnage gases provides hydrogen, carbon monoxide, nitrogen, oxygen and syngas, primarily to the petroleum refining, chemical and metallurgical industries worldwide. Electronics and performance materials provides solutions to a broad range of global industries through chemical synthesis, analytical technology, process engineering and surface science. The equipment and energy segment designs and manufactures cryogenic and gas processing equipment for air separation, hydrocarbon recovery and purification, natural gas liquefaction and helium distribution. This segment is also engaged in power generation, both domestically and internationally. The healthcare segment provides respiratory therapies, home medical equipment and infusion services to over 500,000 patients in their homes. This segment provides oxygen therapy, pharmacist-managed direct-shipped respiratory medications, home nebulizer therapy, sleep management therapy, anti-infection therapy, enteral nutrition, beds and wheelchairs. The chemicals segment is comprised of a polymer emulsions business and a polyurethane intermediates business. The firm is in the process of divesting itself of its polymer emulsions business. The company has majority or wholly-owned foreign subsidiaries that operate in Canada, 17 European countries, 11 Asian countries and four Latin American countries. International subsidiaries include Air Products Asia, Air Products Europe and Air Products Japan. |
